Welcome to the official website of the Union American Methodist Episcopal Church Incorporated. Our church holds a distinctive and remarkable history. What sets us apart is that we are the first fully incorporated African-American Church in the United States. The visionary behind our establishment was the Right Reverend Peter Spencer, who founded our church in 1805. In 1813, we were officially incorporated into the State of Delaware.
The driving force behind our creation was the rejection of negative theological interpretations that marginalized individuals of African descent and relegated them to second-class citizenship. Instead, we aimed to establish a church that provided a welcoming space for all individuals to worship our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, freely.
The mission of the Union American Methodist Episcopal Church, Inc. is to minister to the complete well-being of every person – spiritually, emotionally, and physically. We achieve this by diligently teaching and preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ and embodying its principles daily. Our dedication lies in advancing the Kingdom of God through Evangelism, Discipleship, Church Multiplication, Fellowship, and Love.
